BCS 2024 : BCS Education Zone Booking Update!
Sessions in our popular Education Zone are filling up fast and some are already full, so we would advise booking at your earliest convenience! At the time of writing, slots are still available for:
- TAVI (15 slots)
- EP – Virtual Reality (17 slots)
- EP (8 slots)
- ASD/PFO closure (10 slots)
- CTO PCI (only 2 slots!)
- Practical CMR Scanning (Intermediate-Advanced) (7 slots)

We will again be hosting our annual drinks reception on the Monday of BCS, at the Oast House (M3 3AY) from 6.15pm onwards. All are welcome, we look forward to seeing you there!
CardioStars: a research translation and commercialisation programme from the British Heart Foundation
CardioStars helps physicians and scientists take their research discoveries and turn them into products and businesses that can make a difference to patients. The programme provides a crash course in research translation, innovation and entrepreneurship, and offers networking opportunities and expert mentoring.
The programme is funded by the BHF and participation is offered free of charge. We are particularly keen to enrol cardiologists at the early stages of their research career, including those undertaking MDs and PhDs. No prior experience or a specific idea is required, just an interest and eagerness to learn.

NEW! BCS/Valve for Life Symposia
Patient access to TAVI : Resetting the gender balance
The BCS and Valve for Life, supported by Medtronic, are holding three identical symposia at BCS2024 on Tuesday 4 June. Research has shown that women are less likely to receive aortic valve replacement – you are invited to attend the symposia to discuss the issues and help shape the future of women’s access to cardiology services. The sessions take place from 9.30-10.30am, 11.30am- 12.30pm and 2-3pm – to book login to the conference website. Please register for one session only to allow others to attend.
NEW! Active Bystander Training
Racism, bullying, sexual harassment and other inappropriate behaviours contribute to a toxic culture. It can be deeply corrosive and damaging if these behaviours and attitudes are normalised over time. That’s why it’s essential for everyone to know how to speak up when problems arise. Our new training takes place on Monday 3 June in two identical sessions, at 12.45pm or 2pm and you must be registered for the BCS conference first. Places are limited to 25 people – book here.

GMC Paid Pilot Oppotunity
We’re recruiting cardiologists to assist with our GMC assessment pilots.
This is a great opportunity to get exam practice and gain extracurricular experience for applications and appraisals. You’ll receive a certificate for your portfolio, test scores and £175 for half-day written exam pilots. Travel is also refunded. Your feedback will help us ensure the tests are reliable, set at the right level, and fair to the doctor.

‘Coronary Surgery: Research in Practice’. Friday 31st May. Clinical Education Centre, Glenfield Hospital, Leicester – Registration is open for our educational day
The programme is comprehensive of complex coronary case considerations from imaging to conduit choice decision making for non-guideline described cases and updates on key areas such as revascularisation for poor LV, endoscopic vein harvest, sex differences in outcomes after CABG, and multi-arterial grafting.

London Arrhythmia Summit: 14 June 2024, The King’s Fund, London
The London Arrhythmia Summit aims to provide high-quality arrhythmia and pacing education in a succinct one-day format in the UK. The talks are short and focussed with key take-home messages highlighted in a retainable manner. Some presentations will have provocative titles to enable drilling down to key clinical questions that we often ask in routine patient care. Liverpool Structural Cardiology Course: 12 July 2024, The Muncipal Hotel, Liverpool
The Liverpool Structural Cardiology Simulation Course is a full day, hands-on course designed to offer a comprehensive and in depth experience on all aspects of structural intervention. It will give delegates exposure to TAVI, TEER (Mitral Valve intervention), PFO/ASD closure, left atrial appendage occluders as well as core skills such as vascular closure and transeptal puncture. The course is heavily subsidised and has limited spaces. All Cardiology trainees are welcome and delegates will be grouped according to their experience level for an individualised experience.
