Remember to have your say in the BJCA Survey 2023!
Just a quick reminder that the BJCA 2023 survey is live. This is the most powerful tool the BJCA has to drive change and improve training in cardiology, it’s your feedback that matters! The survey is open to ALL cardiology registrars and fellows whether you hold a NTN or not. Some important changes that have come from the survey data include:
1) Better echo training provision and simulation training
2) Highlighting the important issues with bullying in cardiology
3) Providing information to help illustrate issues with training
This year’s survey has a focus on the rollout of the new Cardiology and GIM curriculums, along with an important section on trainee wellbeing, health and satisfaction. The survey should take a maximum of 20 minutes to complete (link below) and please encourage all your colleagues to fill it in.

BCS Annual Conference 2023 – Education Zone
Information on this year’s Education Zone at the BCS Annual Conference is now up and can be found here. There is a wide variety of Simulator training available, featuring hands-on teaching across a range of procedures and techniques with experienced faculty, and this year’s Imaging Village for Cardiac Imaging training, with practical training opportunities with expert imagers covering the full range of contemporary cardiac imaging modalities.
Sessions are always extremely popular and places are limited, hence anyone wishing to partake is strongly advised to book session(s) as early as possible to avoid disappointment. There will be no drop-in sessions available and all sessions will need to be pre-booked online.
You can book your sessions within your registration for the BCS Annual Conference (fourth page titled ‘Education zone sessions’). If you have already registered, you can use the credentials you were given to login into the BCS website, navigate to ‘Conference Registrations‘ where you will be able to edit your booking.
Temporary Pacing Wire and Pericardiocentesis requirements for CCT
Following the latest SAC/BCS training committee meeting see below the changes in requirements of DOPs for CCT, these have been formally incorporated into the new curriculum.
Pericardiocentesis: Trainees need to have a total of 4 pericardiocentesis DOPs, at which three can be simulation. One of the DOPs has to be level 5 and it has to be on a human, and one of the DOPs has to be within the final two years of training.
Temporary Pacing: 6 DOPs in total for temporary pacing, where three DOPs are level 5 and at least one DOPs level 5 is within the final two years before CCT. Up to 3 of the 6 DOPs can be in the simulation lab.

The legendary cardiology quiz master Prof Mark Westwood is looking for enthusiastic trainees to submit interesting cases to be part of both the EACVI and BCS conference quizzes this year.

Adult Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship – Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria, BC, Canada
The Royal Jubilee Hospital in Canada,are pleased to offer experience and training on beautiful Vancouver Island in a high-volume tertiary care hospital serving a catchment area of approximately 1 million patients. Successful applicants will be enrolled in an intensive hands-on 2-year advanced clinical EP program focusing on state-of-the-art complex device and ablation techniques.
Trainees will work alongside 6 consultant EPs with broad interests in including radiofrequency and cryoablation, complex mapping (Carto and EnSite), intracardiac echocardiography, atypical atrial flutter ablation, venous alcohol ablation, ischemic and nonischemic PVC/VT (including epicardial access) ablation. Device experience will include CRT, venoplasty, snaring, S-ICD, leadless pacing, and conduction system pacing. Cardiogenetics and LAA occlusion exposure is also available.

Clinical Research Fellow in Cardiac Magnetic Resonance (CMR)
The Leeds Cardiac MRI team are looking for a new clinical research fellow, working on one of their research themes in cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging. The successful candidate will be involved in research studies that aim to better understand the effects of cardiovascular risk factors such as diabetes or chronic inflammatory disease on cardiovascular health, evaluate the impact of coronary artery disease or valvular heart disease, or to study the effects of medical or interventional therapies using advanced CMR methods.
