Training Recovery Document

COVID-19 has had a significant impact on UK cardiology training. Not only were training opportunities broadly reduced, many trainees were redeployed from cardiology to other departments including general medicine, intensive care medicine, and emergency medicine. It is recognised that ensuring cardiology trainees receive sufficient training to make up for both past and ongoing barriers related to COVID-19 will require concerted efforts from cardiology departments.

To this end, the BJCA has led the development of a training recovery document that has been endorsed by the British Cardiovascular Society and the Cardiology SAC. This document provides a framework for ensuring trainees receive sufficient training opportunities. It has been endorsed by the British Society of Echocardiography, the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society, and the British Heart Rhythm Society.

Please discuss with your Educational Supervisor and/or Training Programme Director if you feel that you are not receiving sufficient training opportunities or if your current department is not meeting the standards outlined in this training recovery document.
